RELEASE: David Leikam, Joe Straub, Pamela Z | delicateVIEWpoint(s)

delicateVIEWpoint(s) debuts the release of the live studio/radio broadcast sonic collaboration of David Leikam, Joe Straub, and Pamela Z from 2012 with additional mastering treatments in 2017.

  1. FIRST | delicateVIEWpoint 18:49
  2. ANOTHER | delicateVIEWpoint 17:10
  3. FINAL | delicateVIEWpoint 10:53

delicateVIEWpoint(s) is the follow-up from the 2010 David Leikam, Joe Straub aka LeiStra live improvised session album Discovery of Systems, recorded and mastered at Maybeck Studio in Berkeley, California.

  • David Leikam is a San Francisco-based composer-performer and bandleader of the electro-jazz quintet DA5 and industrial jazz unit zBug. Being born with cerebral palsy has affected his body and speech, giving him a distinct view into his creative arts/music process and being largely a self-taught multi-instrumentalist.
  • Joe Straub is a composer, musician and sound artist from Los Angeles, California. He creates music and sound for live performance, recorded media and various combinations of both. His work includes pieces for concert performance, installation, CD, web, animation and film. He works both as a solo artist and in collaboration with many other artists and projects. He is currently based in Berlin, Germany.
  • Pamela Z is a composer/performer and media artist who works primarily with voice, live electronic processing, sampled sound, and video. A pioneer of live digital looping techniques, she processes her voice in real time to create dense, complex sonic layers. Her solo works combine experimental extended vocal techniques, operatic bel canto, found objects, text, and sampled concrète sounds. She uses MAX MSP and Isadora software on a MacBook Pro along with custom MIDI controllers that allow her to manipulate sound and image with physical gestures. Her performances range in scale from small concerts in galleries to large-scale multi-media works in theaters and concert halls. In addition to her performance work, she has a growing body of inter-media gallery works including multi-channel sound and video installations.

Today, Stand with Bandcamp in Support of Immigrants/Basic Human Values

Like 98% of U.S. citizens (including the President), I am the descendant of immigrants—my great-grandparents came to America from Russia and Lithuania as teenagers and worked in sweatshops until they were able to afford to bring the rest of their families over. Most everyone you speak to in this country has a similar story to tell, because we are, in fact, a nation of immigrants, bound together by a shared belief in justice, equality, and the freedom to pursue a better life. In this context, last week’s Executive Order barring immigrants and refugees from seven Middle Eastern countries from entering the United States is not simply immoral, it violates the very spirit and foundation of America. And so all day today (starting at 12:01am Pacific Time), for any purchase you make on Bandcamp, we will be donating 100% of our share of the proceeds to the American Civil Liberties Union, who are working tirelessly to combat these discriminatory and unconstitutional actions.

Bandcamp is a global community where millions of fans discover new music, and directly connect with and fairly compensate the artists who make it. Our mission is to provide all artists with a sustainable platform to distribute their music, while making it easy for fans to directly support the artists they love.

Smashing Pumpkins & delicateVIEWpoint(s) at Dawn

Listening to The Smashing Pumpkins’ studio albums chronologically and updating my equipment listings here this morning.

Also, working on album art for the next trio release featuring David Leikam, Joe Straub, and Pamela Z with the working title: delicateVIEWpoint(s).

Going to Burning Man 2017 in late August too.

Changed Ahead into 2017

In this month of December, I’ve been recovering and working on finding a new muse of sorts within my arts/music.

I’m composing/practicing regularly this month and my projects below are available for paid concert performances ahead.

  • Solo — $100 + expenses | Being born with cerebral palsy has affected his body and speech, giving him a distinct view into his creative arts/music process and being largely a self-taught multi-instrumentalist.
  • DA5 — $500 + expenses | Electro-jazz quintet inspired by the sonic landscapes of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Eddie Gale, and Wadada Leo Smith.
  • DaLu — $200 + expenses | An electronic techno-house duet project.
  • zBug — $400 + expenses | Industrial jazz unit that presents structured improvisational music sets, based on architecture.
